What is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is the process of wearing a series of clear invisible, removable, and comfortable aligner trays that no one can tell you’re wearing. This gives you freedom to smile more during treatment as well.
Invisalign is made with 3D computer imaging technology that has been proven effective. There is no cementing or bonding of any material to your teeth.
Invisalign trays are completely removable. Invisalign software helps make the treatment more predictable for doctors, giving the patient the best possible results.
Invisalign are meant to correct problems like overbites, underbites, crossbites, crowding, and unevenly spaced teeth.
When compared to traditional braces, Invisalign offers both adults and teens a way to improve common orthodontic concerns in a much less noticeable way.
The patient will wear one set of aligners for about one to two weeks, and then switch to the next set in the series. Each set of aligners is modified to allow for a gradual repositioning of the teeth until optimal results are achieved.
How does Invisalign treatment work?
Your dentist provides a set of aligner trays that you wear each for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink and brush. Every two weeks or so you replace the aligner trays with the next in the series. The series of aligners help your teeth move little by little, week by week until they have straightened to the final position as planned in your treatment. You’ll visit our office about once every three months to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time varies between 9-15 months.
Once you have completed the treatment, you would get the retainers that will help you keep your good smile for years to come.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
Invisalign treatment could cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 or more depending on how comprehensive your Invisalign treatment needs to be. You may require a treatment for only 6 months while other patient may need it for 12 months, depending on the crowding of teeth and other factors.
Your insurance may cover part of the treatment and you could pay the rest in easy installments. Give us a call for details.
Why Consider Invisalign?
Completely invisible: If you consider your orthodontic treatment to be a private matter, or simply feel that metal braces don’t fit with your self-image, a practically invisible form of orthodontic treatment might suit you.
Comfortable to wear: The aligners are made from soft, flexible material that has smooth, rounded edges so they won’t irritate your mouth and tissues, as metal wires and braces can.
Customized just for you: Your aligners are custom-created specifically for your teeth and bite, so you can achieve maximum results in a short amount of time.
Removable: Unlike traditional metal braces, you can remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush your teeth, floss, and for special occasions. There’s no need to change your lifestyle with Invisalign. Although it is not recommended to leave your aligners out for too long.
Effective: You will begin to notice a significant difference even before your treatment is complete. Most treatments are completed within one year; however, this can vary from patient to patient.
Improved Oral Hygiene: With appliance that is removable, you are able to clean your teeth much more easily than if you were wearing metal braces.
More Dietary Choices: To protect metal wires and braces, some diet modifications are necessary. With clear aligners, you can still bite into an apple or a crispy pizza crust.
Teeth-Grinding Protection: If you have a teeth-grinding or clenching habit, clear aligners can function as thin nightguards that will protect your teeth from excessive wear.
Easy to Brush: Since they are removable, it’s easy for patients to thoroughly brush and floss their teeth, which is crucial to preventing cavities and gum disease.
Treatment Length: Invisalign gives you great results with less overall treatment time. With conventional braces, teeth are wired together, which can lead to inadvertent movement of adjoining teeth that must be corrected later in your treatment plan.
Fewer Dental Appointments: No wire tightening means fewer dental appointments. The wires on conventional braces usually need to be tightened every four weeks, but since the Invisalign treatment plan is mapped out from the start, we can give you several aligners at each appointment.
Invisalign Teen in Northern Virginia
Invisalign Teen features a built-in easy-to-track indicator that lets your child know when it is time to use the next set of trays. The blue dot on the outside of the tray itself turns clear when it is time to change to the next series of clear aligners. Now teens can enjoy the same advantages of Invisalign with a new system designed especially for teens. Invisalign Teen combines all of the advantages of the proven system with special features designed to fit the active lifestyle and unique treatment needs of today’s teens.
Now your child doesn’t have to worry about unappealing school photos, or missing out on having their favorite foods with friends.
Features of Invisalign Teen include:
Room for growth – Now you don’t have to wait until teeth grow in completely before getting braces. Invisalign Teen has eruption tabs that adjust to your teen’s changing mouth, so you can start treatment on your timetable.
Peace of mind – There’s no need to worry about whether your teen is wearing the aligners often enough. Invisalign Teen is designed with a Blue Dot Wear Indicator that fades to clear over a two-week period if your teen is wearing the aligners properly.
Flexibility – While it’s important for your teen to wear aligners as often as possible, aligners can be removed for those important special occasions like school pictures, prom, and graduation.
Something to smile about – According to recent surveys, more than half of today’s teens feel self-conscious about wearing conventional metal braces. Since Invisalign Teen is virtually invisible, your teen can smile with confidence.
Sports safety – With Invisalign Teen, there’s less risk for the painful sports impact injuries that can occur when teens get hit in a mouth that contains conventional braces with wires and brackets. Plus, custom mouth guards fit better over Invisalign aligners than over traditional braces.

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign clear aligners work the same way traditional braces do: by applying carefully controlled forces to teeth to move them into a better position. But they are not made of metal; instead, they are made of clear, flexible plastic.
- During the initial visit at Impact Dental Care, your dentist will evaluate for crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, overbite and discuss the course of moving your teeth with you.
- Invisalign® makes your aligners
- You receive your clear aligners in a few weeks.
- You’ll wear each set of clear aligners day and night for 1-2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Patients at our office, on average, take approximately 8-14 months to straighten their teeth. You’ll visit the office every other month, or longer, to check the movement of your crowded teeth. Much less time is needed with Invisalign to check the progress of closing the gaps between teeth.
- When you’re finished wearing each clear aligner in the series, your treatment may be complete and you will require upper and lower retainers of your choice. You can choose from fixed or removable retainers.

Caring for Your Teeth During Invisalign Treatment
As mentioned above, one of the main advantages of the Invisalign system is that the trays can be removed for easy cleaning. So please don’ neglect to do this!
You’ll need to brush your teeth after every meal or snack so that food and plaque do not get trapped in the aligners, which could promote tooth decay and gum disease. After brushing and flossing your teeth you may clean aligners prior to each insertion. Never use denture cleaner or soak in alcohol or bleach. Additionally, it is not recommended to soak them in mouthwash; this may dull the aligners and can make the aligners more visible. Do not place aligners in boiling or hot water to clean.
Your aligners, too, will have to be cleaned regularly. The easiest and best way to clean your Invisalign clear aligners, is to take them off and brush them with a normal toothbrush and regular toothpaste every time you brush your teeth. You can use a soft toothbrush. Rinse under running water and brush until clean.
Also, please keep in mind that while wearing clear aligners is very different from wearing braces, the importance of retaining your post-treatment results is exactly the same. You’ll want to be sure to wear your retainer(s) exactly as prescribed after your treatment is completed to protect your investment in a beautiful new smile.
